A big boy’s birthday with @Bakerdays.

I was asked if I would like to review one of @Bakerdays fab 5” Letterbox Gift cakes. The concept is like tasty witchcraft, I had never heard of ‘post cake’ as my son calls it..I wondered how on earth it would survive intact and not be drier than an old boot. There are LOADS of different personalisation choices to choose from, for every occasion possible..Easter, Mothers Day…EMOJI! Cake of the future. I of course fell in love with an obscure but totally adorable moustached cat. You can also choose the flavour, we went with vanilla because my son is a selective sponge eater. Allergies?? You can have your cake and eat it as they have Gluten and Wheat free options.

The postage is lightening McQueen quick; they can do next day delivery if you order before 2pm. Leo sat with his mouth under the letterbox (though we were unkind adults and made him wait for his birthday. There was glowering.) No annoying red note was left to say come get it from the post office..no no!It is in the most unassuming box, which I like as if you have done it as a surprise gift it looks like someone has just sent a plain parcel.

But wait.

You open the lid and see balloons, candles, a card, leaflet and a beautiful tin (that now has my earrings in it). I am a lover of surprise extras so this made me super happy. The cake is wrapped airtight with a cute little ‘how to’ get it out of the tin instructions. Leo was chief cake opener. I liked that on the box it clearly lists what ingredients are in the cake.

We did the sight test.

‘But how did a cat get on a cake..and how did he grow a moustache?!’

We did the sniff test.

‘Mmm it smells like custard and warm marshmallows.’ (These things he loves so it’s a win).

We did the taste test.

*MOUTH FULL* ‘Mum this cake is yummy, why don’t yours taste like this?’

What’s that Mary Berry??Oh yes it has a good spring to it, an even bake, is still moist even though it got posted (I cannot achieve this even straight out of the oven). Perfect for three and not at all stingy with the icing. I would love to receive one as a gift! The price, with postage, tin and the little extras is actually really reasonable, less than the cheapest bunch of flowers you can send which was my previous favoured method of showing love via post.

I think I may buy myself a Chocolate Chip one and pretend I have a secret cake admirer.

P.s They do big cakes too!
